Holistic health is a life approach that perceives the body as a whole system made up of interdependent parts, meaning that if one part is not working properly, all the other parts will be impacted. Many different health practitioners embrace the holistic approach, including dentists, mental health counselors, chiropractors, naturopaths, and homeopaths to name a few.

Holistic health holds unconditional love and support as the most powerful healer. People are believed to have innate healing powers, and holistic health incorporates a team approach between all those involved. Living a holistic lifestyle focuses on health education and making responsible lifestyle choices to promote over-all wellness and prevent illness. Everyday lifestyle choices are known to make up more than 50% of persons overall well-being, making these choices the largest determining factor in their health.

New cells are made from what is available in the body. When there are toxic substances present or a lack of nutrition, cells do not form properly, and as a result, can not carry out their function making them unable to maintain a person’s health. Over time, the buildup of toxic substances and poor diet results in a diminishment of quality in the environment within the body, opening the door for illness and disease.

When an illness or disease arises, holistic methods look at the symptoms as a message that something isn’t right and needs attention. Instead of simply treating the symptoms, holistic health uses the symptoms to target the underlying cause. Attitude, beliefs, and values affect our health and need to be included in treatment plans.
