How to get rid of black mold safely?

Molds are morbid and some are even highly toxic, hence there’s no other way other than removing them from your house. There are many chemicals out there with which you can remove mold but bringing additional toxics in your home is counterintuitive. These chemicals can have serious affects to your health. Hence, when you discover an insidious mold problem in your house, we recommend you to take all the protective measures and use only the safe ways of removing them. If you are skeptical about removing the mold yourself, it is better that you seek help from a professional mold removal company.

Below are few tips with which you can remove mold safely

You can remove the mold present on the surfaces of bathroom or decks by scrubbing the surface with bleach-water solution. But very often, the mold spreads to places that goes unnoticed. You become aware of these stealth molds only when you spot surface staining or detect a rotten mold smell.

When you detect mold concentrations that have spread on a large area or have a smell stronger and mustier than normal molds, we recommend you to use additional precautions. Don’t forget to wear old clothes, gloves, glasses or face masks. If the mold has spread beneath a carpet, make sure to dispose off the carpet and other items that may have come contact with the mold. You may also want to contain the affected area by duct tapes or plastic sheets so that the mold spores do not spread to more areas. You should also turn off the air conditioners or furnaces and cover ventilators, ducts and doors to prevent them catching air borne spores.

Cover up the area using a wet-dry vacuum and then treat it with a biocide and disinfectant, like MoldSTAT or OxB biocide. If you want to remove mold naturally, you can use vinegar, tree tea oil or grapefruit seed extract to do so. From all the natural products available, vinegar is the best mold cleaner. You can also scrub it with a mildew cleaner, which is easily available in hardware stores. Once you have scrubbed off the mold, make repairs to the infected areas and spray disinfectant to the area and surrounding areas to kill morbid spores that cannot be seen. Once that is done, make sure the area is completely dried. You can use a vacuum to suck up the wetness. But later on make sure to properly clean the vacuum tank to get rid of any mold residues. After your mold has been completely removed, regularly check the surfaces for any new infected traces.
