Difficult conversations. We’ve all tried to avoid them. But sometimes we have to have them, especially if it’s with a family member.

For this month’s prompt, write about a difficult conversation you had with a relative. This can be with your child, parent, sibling, step-parent, in-laws…or anyone you consider to be family. How did the conversation go? What did you learn from it? Would you do anything differently? How has it influenced other difficult conversations with family members?

Rules:

  • Your piece needs to be a minimum of 800 words
  • Poetry is not accepted
  • It must be written for the reader. Think about what you as a reader would like to take away from an article about a difficult conversation.
  • Tag your work with “prompt”
  • Your work has to be related to family and/or parenting. Please tag your work with one or both of these.
  • If you would like to enter this challenge but are not a writer for Home Sweet Home, please email an unpublished Medium draft of your entry to…
