So, What is an AWS Game Day?
Nothing more than just a day of fun @work!! A friendly competition with a twist, with tremendous knowledge sharing and learning experience on advanced AWS skills through interactive workshop on AWS Console.
And I was extremely fortunate to be able to attend an event like this on 9th July’2021 @Home24 SE, Berlin.
Colleagues from different background were split into teams of 2-3 and were competed against each other. Points were awarded/deducted based on fulfilment lifecycle and how quickly the listed modelling steps were achieved, that was monitored on real time in the Event Engine Scoreboard.
We were supposed to build an architecture for Unicorn Rentals Franchise in six hours, where the model consisted of below 3 sections:
a)Forecasting the orders & optimising the stock inventory of the colourful unicorns 🦄 because it was a 🌈 day!
It was an important step, as, soon after 3 hours in the event the orders peaked to a very high number and we started running out of stock, which meant points deduction at speedy rate. 😬
b)Next step was bringing your franchise online, the real challenge! 😈
c) And finally marketing the franchise with an additional plan to release new stocks of pink & purple 🦄
During the race, we all quickly learned that being first to build your application isn’t always the best thing. Good architecture, security, scalability and performance are key throughout the day, that’s how you can sustain your model.
Even if your team looses, the efforts of all of the members make the time spent worth and you learn a lot.

Finally, after all the hours of hard work, you get to show what your team is really made of to score the most points throughout the day.
