If I had to choose a single photo to describe this blog, it would be this one. The photographer came, saw and captured a moment that tells us so much about the situation in France and the world.

Photographs have power to stop the time and freeze the reality. Here’s a photo of a man sitting right in the middle between revolution and transnational corporations. FED EX, Apple computers, Amazon, HSBC — “these companies have replaced the blood in our veins and switched places with the air we breath” says author of the picture.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the man we can see black and white posters of the Nuit Debout movement. They say ‘culture de la peur’ (culture of the poor) or ‘tous debout’ (stand up everyone). Nuit Debout is the movement that was born out of the anti-labour law protests in France. It is the movement that tries to push those large soulless corporations out of our lives as much as it is possible.

And again, here is a homeless man who needs food, shelter and compassion and he is caught in the battle between revolutionaries and large corporations. He is tired. Both emotionally and physically. I am not sure whether he cares about the struggle anymore.

When we start movements to change our societies and fight our oppressors, let’s also not forget about this man and his fate. We struggle not for individuals — we struggle for every member of the society who was treated unjustly by the powerful.
