Each week, people around the world take streets of their cities to remind their governments that their voices matter. In this series I want to collect the best images from protests around the world.

TRENDING HASHTAGS — #FRISCOFIVE

BRIEF

Jury said that a policeman who shot unarmed man 59 times did not use excessive force. That’s when five people sat down in front of a Mission Police Station in San Francisco to hold a hunger strike against police brutality.

Racism never comes alone. Earlier this month a San Francisco police officer referred to African-Americans as “nigs,” Mexicans as “beaners” and Indians as “disgusting” put a further strain on the fraught relationship between community members and police.

Hundreds have gathered on Tuesday to support five hunger strikers in their battle against injustice.

Here is the Frisco Five:

The sound of drumbeats mixed with slogans as“Jail the Killer” hit the streets with people looking outside their office windows. It’s unusual to hear political slogans here. It’s not Baltimore where Black Lives Matter movement started. It’s San Francisco and people are saddened to hear that racial injustice came to their city as well.

What’s Happening?

“Police Chief Greg Suhr must resign!”. Protesters say he tried to protect his police officers who shot several people of African and Mexican decent from punishment. In April, a homeless man named Luis Gongora was killed while asleep on the streets of the city.

PROTESTERS’ WORDS:

“No justice, no peace. No racist police.”

“Stop killing US”

“ Stop the execution of our people”

What Can Happen?

One of the five hunger-strikers has got in the hospital and his health is deteriorating. If the strike will continue we may see reports of four more people losing their health in the fight for justice.

However, police brutality will never stop if people like Frisco Five will not act in their defence.
