It’s horse season. And there’s a lot of money on the track. If you’ve ever gotten annoyed at what seems like an absurd bag check at a concert, or the airport, or a big horse race, consider what’s being protected. From the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby on May 2nd, to the Preakness on May 16th and the Belmont Stakes on June 6th, we’re in the the biggest month in the world for horse racing. Check out the image below to get an idea why they have the dozens of visible and invisible security measures in place — from the guard frisking you for a laser pointer to insurance policies — for the Kentucky Derby. Think about that the next time you enter an event, or get on a plane.
If you’re attending one of the triple crown races this year, have a look at the security policies before you go. And no umbrellas.
