As a busy Homeland Security professional my clothes need to be comfortable, practical and keep me warm and dry. I also want to look good and have my clothes work well for daily use and travel. Fortunately the “functional fashion” trend makes this a little easier. These items are on my list of top wardrobe essentials.

1. REI’s Weinland Park Jacket

This short trench coat is actually a commuter cycling jacket but it’s so cute I wear it every day. The jacket is “lightweight with sleek urban style.” It sheds rain, resists winds up to 35 MPH, is highly reflective, very stretchy and has lots of pockets for your lip gloss and cell phone.

2. Fun Scarves:

A scarf can dress up your outfit, keep your neck warm, be wrapped over your head to protect your hairstyle and keep your ears warm. They can also be used as a shopping bag, arm sling, Baby Bjorn, or water filter if the zombie apocalypse occurs while you are out shopping!

3. Gloves:

These cute polka dots gloves are also from REI. They match the Weinland coat perfectly while keeping your hands warm and usable with texting strips on the fingertips, allowing maximum selfie action while keeping the digits toasty. These cute gloves will also provide protection for your hands in an emergency from sharp objects.

4. Blundstone boots:

Blundstone boots are Australia’s famous work boots. “Blundies” as they are affectionately known, are now available with fun color accents. These ultra-light leather boots are weather-resistant, provide great support, and with the elastic sides and finger loops you can zip through the TSA lines in these sweeties in no time!

5. Smart Wool Boot Sock

These socks keep your feet and legs warm and cozy. It is hard to tell from the photo but they have a cute ruffle at the top! When it is really raining, I have rung the water out of my socks and put them back on with no discomfort. Awesome hiking accessory, because who doesn’t need a ruffle on the trail?

Stay safe and look good out there!
