You hate the TSA airport security line, so why don’t you do something about it?

Traveling can be a stressful experience when things don’t go as planned. How will you deal with unexpected crises such as oversleeping in the morning, congested traffic, or long security lines? One unexpected delay can throw off your whole itinerary. One option to help reduce stress and free up valuable time is to take advantage of available Transportation Security Administration programs to speed up the airport security process.
The TSA has developed a program called PreCheck which allows travelers to be screened ahead of their planned travel and expedite the security process. This time saving measure may be just what the doctor ordered when life throws you a curve ball and you begin to feel the stress. You can register for the program through one of the three available options: apply online through the TSA website, schedule an appointment by calling (855) 347–8371 weekdays (8 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET), or visit an application center. PreCheck costs $85 for five years of service.
PreCheck doesn’t replace the security process; it expedites it. In order to enroll in PreCheck you must qualify for the program. Qualifications can be found on the TSA website. Violations of transportation security regulations, committing disqualifying criminal offenses, and other factors will also make you ineligible for the program.
Once you are approved, the PreCheck Program will provide you with a Known Traveler Number (KTN) to use when making flight reservations. Participating airlines will now print the designation “TSA PRECHK” on your boarding pass. (See examples below) Once you get to the airport, you simply look for the signs marking the lane. Hint: that should be the shorter line.

Another significant advantage: no need to remove shoes, laptops, 3–1–1 liquids, belts, or light jackets. That alone might be worth $17 per year investment for frequent travelers.
PreCheck is available when you travel with participating airlines and use a participating airport. For your convenience, the complete list of 12 participating airlines and more than 150 airports can be easily navigated on the user friendly TSA website: https://www.tsa.gov/tsa-precheck
Although it is impossible to completely remove the stress from traveling, you can help yourself by taking measures to save time. This might make your next flight smooth and easy, especially if the unexpected happens…
