Google Home is a really interesting product and in many ways, along with the Amazon Echo, is ushering in this trend towards the adoption of voice controlled, smart assistants for the home.

I had previously mentioned that the Google Home in our video unboxing that the device comes in this weird form factor, which to me looks like a cross between a vase or an air freshener. I think they drew inspiration from these everyday objects so that it would just blend, unobtrusively, in any home.

But the Google Home’s decorative or aesthetic value is probably not the reason why you would purchase this device. You would really buy this for the smart, artificial intelligence powering it: the Google Assistant.

The Google Assistant is the same service behind many modern Android phones. You can think of it as a voice interface to Google’s search engine — so instead of typing in questions in Google’s search box you can just ask.

You ask it by using its wake word “OK Google” and then asking your question. For example you can say “OK Google, who is the President of the Republic of the Philippines”

Not only that, you can link it with your favourite music service such as Spotify and say “OK Google, play songs from Spotify.”

Or play your favorite music playlist “OK Google, play my playlist ‘Tophits Philippines’ on Spotify”

Or just have it play your favorite song, from your favorite artist “OK Google, play ‘Ride Home’ from Ben and Ben.

Awesome!!!

Google Home makes me feel like I am living in the future. If you have ever watched Star Trek then it feels exactly like that.

Setting it up is very easy, you just plug it in, download the Google Home app, connect the device to your Wifi, and that’s it! Set up is easy!

We are just scratching the surface of what Google Home can do for you. You can ask it to schedule appointments on your Google Calendar, set an appointment, play games, do your homework, even make calls. But for now Ill show you another cool use for Google Home, which is to use it to control other smart devices in your home.
