Ask any woman and she will tell you that it’s hard to find a good hairstylist. Having a good haircut is important to most of us.

After many years of just letting my hair grow and using box color, I finally had to admit defeat and needed to find a good stylist. As I grew older, my curly frizzy hair was out of control, and the box color wasn’t doing me any favors. It didn’t look good, and its only benefit was that it was cheap.

My husband was frustrated as well because I ended up getting color all over the bathroom, and he would have to paint. We did have a great family stylist for many years, but she retired.

My sons were old enough to find their own people, and my husband landed at one of those walk-in places. I did the same and went to one of those Aveda salons where you could make an appointment with just anyone. I had some interesting experiences with that.

One day, I ran into a former student, and as it turns out, she was training to be a stylist. As soon as she landed at a salon, I was one of her first customers. It was great until she got sick. It was cancer. We decided that until she got better, I would start seeing her partner.
