The perfect way to assert oneself is to write a guest post in someone’s blog or media source which already has an audience.

This way you are likely to find your readers much faster. You could write an article as an expert or as a reader eager to share your knowledge and experience.

Here are a few tips to help you increase your chances to be published.

1. Suitable Subject

Before suggesting a topic look at the columns and articles the resource has already published. First of all, the publisher is interested in everything that is of practical use i.e. helps to solve problems at work, in a relationship, finances, business.

Personal experience, scientific pop, and geek analysis are exactly what’s needed if the topic is pressing for a wide audience.

2. Expertise

The publisher will be happy to review a column on law written by a practicing lawyer, a business story by an entrepreneur, and an article “How I got onto a desert island and survived” by a man who did get onto a desert island and did survive. BUT if you discovered self-awareness a week ago and now want to publish an article on how great it is to meditate, the answer is likely to disappoint you.

3. Proven Statements

This applies to quotes, statistics, all kinds of figures. Where accuracy is important, a link to a credible source should be found and added.

4. No Advertising

The column is a place to share your expertise, experience, and knowledge, and such articles usually do not mention companies. If your goal is to tell about your company or product you’d better go straight to the “Advertisers” section.

5. Clear Structure

It sometimes happens that the topic is cool, the speaker is fantastic, but the text is a bed-sheet. Break it down into paragraphs and come up with subheadings — it is sure to make your text more attractive.

If these five conditions are met, you are about to succeed.
