Writing Marathon or How to Let the Inner Writer out
NaNoWriMo or National Novel Writing Month is the annual November writing marathon.
It has no borders and everyone can participate in it. If you have a computer with Internet access and an intention to write a draft story, novel or fairy tale in a month, you are in.
Today I will tell you why you should join it.
1. Promised to others is easier done.
If you lack motivation, perseverance, and patience to start writing and get it done you certainly need the support of like-minded people and a public promise.
By default, the marathon organizers suggest writing a text of 50 thousand characters in a month. But this is optional and up to you: set the bar lower (or higher!) and take small steps towards the goal marking your everyday progress with the slider.
2. A supportive environment for a whole month and for free.
😋
A lot of people take part in the marathon. They are all different but they are certainly as talented as you are. Communicating through a chat or a forum directly on the project’s website gives you a boost, prevents you from falling into despair if something goes wrong.
You will understand that writing is fun, and writers are ordinary people like you, without a crown on their heads and arrogance. Search for the places where you can join “writers” evenings (and nights) organized in your city (subject to the epidemiological situation).
3. Make the most important thing the most important thing.
😋
If you’ve been thinking about starting writing for a quite a while, this is the time. Do not delay or postpone your plans.
That’s the purpose the #NaNoWriMo was created for: to force both beginners and writers who have already had a try at writing stop being afraid, set a goal and achieve it. Throughout the month you will be receiving a newsletter from the organizers that will remind you that you are not alone and can do much more than you think.
Nanowrimo.org is the official website of the project where you can create an account and mark your progress (you’d better practice your English in advance).
Search for your (or nearest) location in the “Regions” tab. Forums usually come to life right before the start of the marathon. By searching for “NaNoWriMo” you will find social profiles of the project in your favorite social network.
By the way, last year’s November marathon helped me to finish my first novel for children entitled “Italian Vacations”. This year it was thrice included in the long lists of various literary competitions and awards as well as reached the final round of one of them.
