There are a number of AI sites that you can use to write cover letters for you (CoPilot, ChatGPT, etc.) however, my recent discovery and favourite by far is AIApply. Not only does it write a cover letter for you but it aligns the letter content with your CV.

If you opt for a subscription it will also tailor your CV to the specific job as well but for now we are focussing on the free version that writes your cover letter for you.

The How-To

The first thing you need to do is head to AIApply.co and select ‘Start now for free.’ You will then sign-up with your email address, upload your CV, and you’re ready to go!

When you’re ready to apply for a new role, you select ‘New Application Kit,’ paste in the job description you are looking at and voila! A Cover Letter will be written that matches the details in your CV.

Please note: While I have pasted an affiliate link above, there is no cost to use this service for the first few (I think 7 or so) Cover Letters you generate.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS REVIEW

The Cover Letters that this tool generates are fantastic however, you need to make sure they are accurately representing your CV and that all statements made are true. I also suggest checking for American/British spelling and making sure that the chosen option matches your location.

Do I Have to Write a Cover Letter?

Yes. If the job advert asks for a cover letter, you provide one.

If the job application process does not specify a requirement for a Cover Letter then it’s up to you. Personally I like to write one because I can directly address the selection criteria in more detail than my CV provides.

To AI Or Not To AI?

There are a lot of views around AI at the moment, both positive and negative. Is using AI to write your job application documents something you would consider? If you prefer a more traditional approach to writing Cover Letters, stay tuned!
