I was lucky.

I jumped on the Medium bandwagon in the closing doors. I ran, sweated, and screamed for somebody to pull the stop switch. Nobody stopped — in fact, the train only started going faster — so I had to run faster and make the jump.

By a lucky chance, I was in.

But back then, I didn’t know just how lucky I was.

On October 2, 2019, I was sitting in a Costa Coffee near my London apartment, thinking about what I would do next with my life. It was one of the most uncertain periods of my life. I just made a crazy decision to move away from Russia and come to a new country (UK) with virtually nothing.

I had no job. No prospects. And my savings account was shrinking fast. I knew I had to come up with something.

After a series of unsuccessful and soul-crushing interviews at various London marketing agencies, I opened Medium to console me. I stumbled upon one article by Tim Denning.

I don’t remember what the article was about — but it made an impression on me: here was a guy making a full-time living with his words.
