How have you been?
“Tired” I said.

They laughed at me. Citing the fact that because I was working on my own business that I should NOT be tired. I should NOT be complaining. In fact, implying that I was pretty much just enjoying life.
You see, I quit my job more than half a year ago. I did without regret as I am a true believer that if you are unhappy at your work, just leave. I know, many will argue. But life is too short to spend it in a toxic workplace.
But the reason I was so tired was purely because I was mentally drained. I have spent months looking for people, trying to get help, researching, planning, changing, searching and the risks? Very real. People tend to assume that quitting a job is purely about just financial ability. Truth is they are not wrong. But only to an extent because the responsibility and expectation is far higher than you ever could imagine.
Being born into a fairly well to do family, I believed that I was somehow owed a better life. But as I started to learn, I realised that I was not entitled for a better life but obligated to give others a better one.
I’ve been working on starting my own business. The name is pretty funny. The products are funky. The causes are real. My goal was to create a business mainly to have meaning to my work. Why is it that so many of us can go through our lives without meaning just to have a pay check to pay the bills? To me, if you were not into a world of hunger, you are obligated to do more than just live day by day. ESPECIALLY if others are dying and living in pain.
In this search for meaning, I found a passion in me towards the victims of child trafficking. The actions and the destruction of child traffickers infuriated me. So I decided to dedicate my business towards the aid of children in lesser fortunate situations. Why? Because I imagined the potential.
Look at these millions of children who annually get taken from their lives. What if they had an opportunity in this world? What if they had the chance to meet their potential? What if they actually had the ability to go to school? What if THEY could decide when and who they would marry? What if they could control their own fates? Would we be freaking flying in jetpacks? Would we have already cured world hunger? Would we be living on the mars? Well. What if right?
So during this planning. I found a huge gap in the market. My research brought me to learn that the children’s apparel market was hugely under established. All the major brands were jumping on the bandwagon of children’s apparel and creating a while new world of clothing just for kids. Through this I got a pretty simple idea.
I started to plan my brand to have a pretty simple product. A line of alternative designer clothing for babies and children but one that dedicates its money and effort towards youth.
The New Parents. They were people I wanted because I felt that they would be ones that actually cared about their impact in the world. They would feel a sense of responsibility towards their purchases and especially how they raised their children. At least I HOPE that they would and their influence overall can teach a generation to simply care more and to love what they buy.
The idea overall was for our parents to Grow With Us. Introducing a system whereby we took in older clothing from our customers. These clothing would be part of what we would give to children in lesser fortunate situations. Ideally if needed, through donations but if possible, creating entrepreneurs in those countries we intend to help and creating jobs overall. Thats the hope at least.
But my hope for what I might or could do would never be properly expressed in any amount of words I could use. So when people laugh when I “claim” that I am tired I usually just smile.
Starting your own business is in a way a lonely journey and it honestly is something that only you can understand. Although sharing your thoughts and worries with people could change and help you but it really only helps for that moment. Its how you pull through the tough times. If you take one step forward, you are most likely going to take two steps back right after. I know. It sucks but thats what starting a business is all about so enjoy every bit of the struggle!

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very mean and nasty place, and I don’t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward; how much you can take and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done! ”- Rocky Balboa
