There’s a verse in the New Testament that says “To whom much is given, much will be required.” I think about that quote a lot, along with another, more recently popularized sentiment: “With great power comes great responsibility.” We typically attribute those words to Voltaire or Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben, but it’s one of those quotes that resonates with virtually everyone for good reason. Everybody knows this one, right? Most people see its validity — at least to some degree.

What we can’t seem to agree on are the specifics.

Rich and powerful men like Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, and Elon Musk all fit into this category of those who have been “given much.” Whether or not you believe they personally earned all of their success doesn’t even matter. The point is that they have resources most people on the planet will never truly be able to grasp.

It naturally begs the question, what do these men (and others like them) owe the world? What are their responsibilities as individuals in such extraordinary positions? Are they here to simply get richer off the sweat of their workers, or is there a bigger purpose and greater good meant for these guys?
