The End of Empathy

According to Elon Musk, empathy is an undesirable trait among intelligent human beings. A flaw or “bug” in our human programming. Musk recently went on record to complain that empathy is a real weakness with the power to destroy entire civilizations.

It's such a disgustingly bleak belief. that belongs in a Lex Luthor comic book rather than real life. So bleak, I don't even have the stomach to link to his full statement here or to quote him verbatim. If you haven't read about his disdain for empathy and want to get it all in context, you can pull it up on Google for yourself.

You might need a puke bucket, though.

The irony is that I believe most of us here would say empathy is an absolutely essential trait for any remotely good or moderately healthy society. We can't do truly good things as a group without accessing our collective empathy, and we can't have collective empathy if we don't foster this trait individually within our children and ourselves.

Don't you agree? I genuinely don't think I'm crazy or naive about this. I truly think the end of empathy IS the end of us.

It's the end of our humanity.
