As it was promised within the previous article, we are continuing our journey in the world of artificial intelligence, smart algorithms, and that multitude of fields which a chatbot particularly is ready to upgrade. Our next stop will concern the healthcare system, representing a set of all organizations, institutes, and resources having the main goal of health improvement.
Within the healthcare system, there are a lot of opportunities where a chatbot is able to apply its abilities and intelligence in a successful way. For example, it is predicted that these resourceful innovations will play a critical role when we are talking about primary care. As the progress makes it happen naturally it is expected that in the future chatbots will represent “the first hand” being able to solve many of the repetitive problems and answer questions regarding the health condition without involving a real medical specialist. Nevertheless, if there will appear some difficult circumstances, unsolvable for a bot, it will transmit the case to a certain doctor. But even if barely a quarter of cases will be solved by the instrumentality of a chatbot, this already will be a good first step. In light of such perspectives, healthcare specialists can be focused on the activities that a machine is not able to perform.
Just think about the situation where, for example, a patient needs to get ready for a colonoscopy. First of all, he/she will make a consultation, then a chatbot may react via text message or even email, delivering the appropriate information and some guidelines trying to focus on any questions. This is a perfect model of how a medical institution can save time and money, considering the fact that the patient will come to the medical procedure perfectly prepared, so that procedure does not have to be annulled at the last moment.
Health chatbots will be and already are marvelous assistants for those who can appreciate their employability, patients along with their families in clarifying some basic inquiries on the one hand and medical staff on the other.
There are a lot of difficulties that a chatbot is capable of performing. Starting with the idea that these smart computer algorithms have the “talent” of learning and upgrading their skills with every single conversation, it is logical that they are able to react to a patient’s specific need or demand, making the interplay more personalized.
A chatbot represents an advantageous one-time investment for a modern medical institution. That is why many clinics and hospitals already invested in a chatbot. Reasons are many. Let us start with accessibility and receptiveness. What does it mean? It means that devices of many people are already tooled up with healthcare chatbots. Accordingly, they can get a real answer regarding their health condition from a chatbot easier than before. Another benefit is that a chatbot is affordable for users because its cost is reduced nowadays. Talking about money saving, let us recognize how often a minor health problem which can be solved with $20, for example, is getting more severe and over time its solving requires already a cost of $2000. By the same token, one of the main goals that chatbot developers want to achieve is to solve avoidable health problems by helping patients to learn how to take care of their health responsibly before their symptoms are becoming more severe.
It is increasingly felt that AI-based chatbots continue to take more ground and their number increases within the healthcare segment. Hereinafter, we will enlist some of the most up-and-coming chatbots, which already are doing their job.
*Florence. Florence is a chatbot developed to execute tasks like reminding patients to take their pills, finding the nearest pharmacy or a doctor’s office, being available on many platforms such as Skype, Facebook Messenger, and others. Also, Florence is able to keep a careful watch on a patient’s period, body weight and other important moments that help people to keep things under control.
*Gyant. The most important goal of the Gyant chatbot is to get the record straight regarding patient’s symptoms and to ask him/her to understand them. Later it directs the information collected to a real specialist who establishes the diagnoses and prescribes the treatment course in real time.
* Eva is the bot which is able to converse with the user about many health problems. Even if initially it was created only for young women, in order to provide information in regard to their sexual and reproductive well-being.
We want to conclude with the idea that people, regardless of their age, need professional healthcare. As artificial intelligence based chatbots and the acces to information is an uninterrupted process, why not let the calculated and responsive robots perform the tasks?
