In marketing, there are usually periods of intense work usually around campaigns. The two weeks before the go-live usually entail spending long hours in the office. After you come home, you barely have any energy to do anything. You want to eat your dinner and go to bed. However, you also want to spend some time relaxing because this is probably the only hour you will get for yourself in a day for the foreseeable future. You want to do something involving no screen as you already had an overload of screen time during the day. This is where I lean towards reading.

Reading a physical book is an activity light on the eyes with multiple genres to choose from based on your interests. Below are some books that help me unwind after a long day at work.

Harry Potter Series or any book with happy feelings for you

I read these books as a child, patiently waiting for the next one to release. While I have read and re-read these books multiple times since then, they still hold a deep place in my heart.

The rich world and that familiar environment induces a sense of peace within me. It is my go-to book whenever I feel overwhelmed and anxious and want to feel that child-like calm and positive inner world. It makes me feel like me again and get a semblance of control in life.

While it is Harry Potter for me, it can be any book you adored as a child which kept living inside you as you grew older.

What You Are Looking For is in the Library

‘What You Are Looking For is in the Library’ is a simple book with a simple premise brimming with hope, positivity and happiness. It is light and effortless to read and will leave you feeling warm inside with happy hormones at the end of the day.

I have recently discovered the genre of Japanese cat and library books. All these books highlight the positives of a simple life filled with small, meaningful moments.

The Kamogawa Food Detectives

The Kamogawa Food Detectives is another Japanese book of short stories that celebrates food. The book is about a father-daughter duo running a food detective agency that helps customers by recreating a dish from their memory.

The patrons usually request to taste a dish made by their mother or something they relished as a kid on a trip somewhere. The detective agency does the legwork from finding the history of the day/place mentioned, sourcing the authentic ingredients from their region along with the recipe and cooking the dish.

The food descriptions are craving-inducing with their descriptions of fresh ingredients and cooking.

The Rosie Project

If you are looking for a humorous and witty read, check out this book.

The Rosie Project is a funny story of a socially awkward Genetics professor looking for a suitable wife who meets all his necessary conditions. However, after dating extensively, he finds himself falling for a girl completely different from his requirements. He is unable to understand the reason behind this illogical phenomenon.

The inner musings of the professor and writing are so witty that you will laugh out loud. Perfect for improving mood with a laugh or two.

I hope these books bring you comfort after a long day should you choose to read them.
