I recently read Star Wars: Phasma, by Delilah S. Dawson for the first time. It was written as a companion book for The Last Jedi film. It was published in 2017. There will be plenty of spoilers ahead, though I think I still left a few major details unsaid.

As always, these are just my impressions. I’m not here to tell you if the book is “good” or “bad.” Only you can decide whether or not you like it. And your opinion ultimately doesn’t mean the book is definitively “good” or “bad” in any objective sense. I’ll also say that if you want to read some middle-aged man’s nostalgic thoughts on why only the first two Star Wars movies are “real Star Wars,” there are plenty of other people out there who are writing just that.

Before I read this book, I wasn’t a huge fan of Captain Phasma. She was introduced in the seventh film, The Force Awakens. Her armor is cool, but that was about it. The Last Jedi gave her an epic fight scene with Finn, but that scene was about Finn and him finally becoming a Rebel. It wasn’t about Phasma. So I never thought much of Phasma.
