Anne Frank’s story teaches us to never lose hope and to be brave, despite facing unimaginable horrors. As a young girl, she woke up every morning to the reality of the Holocaust, yet found the courage to face each traumatic day.

“People can tell you to keep your mouth shut, but that doesn’t stop you from having your own opinion.”

-Anne Frank

Annelies Marie Frank, widely known as, Anne Frank, was a German-born Jewish girl who witnessed the atrocities of World War II. During the war, the Nazis held the Jewish people hostage in the Netherlands, where Anne lived.

On her 13th birthday, Sunday, June 14, 1942, she began writing in her diary, shortly before her family went into hiding. They, along with another Jewish family and a dentist, lived in a secret and confined space above her father’s office in Amsterdam, which Anne called “The Secret Annex.”

Her diary became a lifeline for her during this time, capturing her thoughts and feelings as she grappled with living in hiding. In her diary, which she addressed to her imaginary friend “Kitty,” Anne wrote about her family, the other people in the annex, conflicts with her mother, her identity, the world around her, and more.

She also wrote about literature, philosophy, and her aspirations, revealing her intelligence and cleverness with words.

Her diary captures the typical struggles and joys of adolescence, as well as the extraordinary circumstances of her life in hiding.

Despite the darkness around her, Anne remained optimistic and believed in the inherent goodness of people. She dreamed of a world where people lived in peace and harmony. Her diary conveyed a sense of hope, even in the darkest times. She was an eternal optimist and refused to let the cruelty around her break her spirit.

Anne has poured her melting heart out in the form of words. Each sentence of these 216 pages of the book has a story to tell. Some will make you blush, laugh, be annoyed, and giggle while some will roll down your tears.

It’s not just a diary; it is a powerful and emotional testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. It revolves around the life of a young 13-year-old girl but it connects with all of us while reading.

“Where there’s hope, there’s life. It fills us with fresh courage and makes us strong again.”

-Anne Frank

Tragically, in August 1944, the annex was betrayed and its occupants were arrested. Anne and her sister Margot both died of typhus in early 1945. Of the eight people in hiding, only Anne’s father, Otto Frank, survived the Holocaust.

After the war, Otto Frank arranged for the publication of Anne’s diary. It has since become one of the most widely read and influential accounts of the Holocaust, providing a deeply personal and human perspective on the horrors of that period.

During her time in the annex, Anne wrote and unknowingly wrote, every day, where fate would take her. All she knew was that she enjoyed, loved writing, and wanted to live forever even when she died and I think that’s what happening.

Anne Frank, a diarist, will always remain in our hearts forever.

“In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.”
Anne Frank
