This Weekend In Sport: 07/10
On This Weekend In Sport, we look at what sporting goodies the upcoming weekend has in store for us all; featuring a comprehensive list of the who’s, the when’s and the where’s of the games too.
Football: England v Malta, Saturday @ 5pm
All eyes will be on Gareth Southgate, England’s new interim manager, who took over the reigns of the Three Lions after Sam Allardyce’s spectacular fall from grace. The team face Malta, though, who should provide no threat to Southgate matching Allardyce’s record of one match, one win.
England are a team that have made their home under the microscope, constantly watched and under criticism, and that only intensified after getting knocked out of the Euros by a team where the term “underdog” is still stretching a bit.
Because of this, a lot of fans will want a shake up, and for many, that shake up has arrived in the form of Marcus Rashford.
No English player has scored more goals than Rashford since his professional debut.
With stats like that, it’s hard to argue against him starting. You can expect the goals to be flying in regardless though, just mostly past the Malta keeper. Although, if Iceland is anything to go by, we can’t underestimate anyone.
UFC: UFC 204, Sunday @ 3am
Manchester's very own Michael Bisping will be taking on Dan Henderson, fittingly on his home turf in the Manchester Arena. Bisping will enter the ring as the current UFC Middleweight Champion; a whole seven years after Henderson knocked Bisping into another dimenstion with a second round knockout.
Vitor Belfort will also be taking on Gegard Mousasi in a middleweight bout, and Russell Doane, who stepped in to replace Arnold Allen, will be facing Mirsad Bektic. A warning for anyone on GMT though: despite it taking place on English soil, the main card is still expected to begin at 3:00 am to satisfy the foreign audiences.
Formula 1: Japanese Grand Prix, Saturday @ 03:55am
Formula 1 is also heading to Suzuka, Japan, for the Japanese Grand Prix. Suzuka will be well known to racing fans, with racers like Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna having iconic races on the circuit. The course itself is considered one of the toughest around, so racing fans will need to have an eye on this — an event that promises plenty of highlights.
