We have seen the best places in Granada, now let’s think something of our tummy. Granada has a variety of food options. Simple yet tasty foodstuffs are available in all restaurants across the city. Let’s have a look of what can we eat.

CHURROS AND CHOCOLATE

Churros and chocolate sauce dip is a typical Spanish breakfast. Usually served with coffee or chocolate drink. The chocolate is thick and is perfect for dipping your churros into.

TOSTADA (TOAST) AND TOMATO

In Granada, tostada is long, bread rolls, cut in half and toasted. Tostada and tomato (a toasted roll topped with grated tomato and olive oil) are one of the most common. Other typical toppings include cured ham, jam, and butter,paté. Juice or coffee as per your choice is complimentary options with this toast.

This is the cheapest meal option. Many restaurants in Granada serve a set lunch menu on weekdays at midday. These are displayed on boards outside the restaurant. The idea is to choose one dish from the first section as a starter and another from the second section as your main course. It includes bread (pan), dessert (postre) and a drink (bebida). Some places will let you have a coffee instead of a dessert.

SHAWARMA

A shawarma is generally made from shredded meat (chicken, beef, lamb, etc.) which has been roasted on a spit. It is wrapped in a flatbread. You can add from a selection of accompaniments (falafel, hummous, shredded cabbage, tomato, cucumber, tahini, etc.) to it.

BURGERS AND FRIES

Although there are several fast-food restaurants around Granada, there is only one in the center of the city: Burger King in Puerta Real.

PIONONOS CAKES

There are several places in Granada where you can buy cakes and pastries. You can choose either to eat them at the bar, at a table or to take out. One of the local specialties to try is the “pionono”, small, gooey and sweet. It is a mid-morning snack option.

RACIONES

A typical Spanish meal for lunch/dinner. Spanish way of eating is to order to a selection of different dishes (raciones) from the menu for everyone to share. Popular choices are patatas a lo pobre (potatoes slowly fried in oil), tortilla de patatas (Spanish potato omelet), fritura de pescado (selection of fried fish), lomo al ajillo (pork in a garlic sauce) and ensalada de la casa (house salad).

Another meal option is to order a Plato combinado. This normally consists of meat and chips, fish and a salad, fried eggs and chips, etc combination.

VEGAN FOOD & TAPAS

In recent years the number of bars and restaurants serving vegetarian or vegan food has grown and there is now a lot more variety and greater choice than before. You can also enjoy Tapas at bars. Tapas are Spanish savory dish served with drinks at the bar. Usually, tapas are served for free and are a small portion of any kind of Spanish cuisine.

Also, last but not the least there are many ice cream parlours in Granada. Several sell their own homemade ices and sorbets, which is also worth trying.
