Today we are about to see one of the oldest roman cities in the world. Malaga is a beautiful city in Andalusia, Spain. This historical city is a must go for travelers looking for old architecture. Not taking much of your time, let’s get into the details of the city.

Malaga is sixth largest and second most populous city of Spain. It has beheld Phoenician, Roman, Arabic and Christian eras. It is famous for its historical remains and monuments from these different eras. Its nomination in the 2016 European Capital of Culture is one of the signs of its artistic heritage. Pablo Picasso, the famous artist was born in Malaga. There is a famous monument built in the city as a tribute to him.

There are lots of things to visit and enjoy in the city. The city offers beaches, hiking, architectural sites, art museums, excellent shopping and cuisine. Let’s peek into some of the best places of these city.

Gibralfaro

Gibralfaro hill is a Phoenician word meaning “Rock of light”. It is located about 130 m above the city from where we get a magnificent view of Malaga city & the Mediterranean Sea. In 14th Century, King of Granada constructed an enormous castle on this hill. You will have to walk your way through a thick forest full of Pines and Eucalyptus trees.

HARBOR — PORT OF MALAKA

Port of Malaka is oldest international sea port of Malaga. It is on Costa del Sol coast of Mediterranean sea. The harbor has a lot of options for shopping & food. Here you can get the famous Malaga ice cream blended with raisins & sweet Malaga wine. Exports of minerals, pottery, almonds, wine and oil take place from these port. Also cruise ships to these port.

MALAGUETA BEACH

Malagueta beach is a few minutes drive from the center of Malaga. La Malagueta is one of the 16 beaches that make up the city’s coastline. It has restaurants for food and drinks. Also sun beds and umbrellas are available on rent. A decent place where you can spend an entire day with lots of activities around.

ALCAZABA FORTRESS AND ROMAN THEATRE

Alcabaza means ‘Citadel’ in Arabic. It is one of the city’s historical monuments. King of Granada constructed these fort around 1057. Next to these fort is Roman theater. The fortress is an example of Islamic work in Spain today. Its important archaeological legacy still exist. We can see remains of roman walls lined with red stucco in these fort. Small cisterns carved into the slate and used for making fish paste by the Romans. We can watch stage plays in these roman theatre today also.

MUSEO PICASSO MALAGA

It is a museum, based in the Calle San Agustín which is 200 meters away from the place where Pablo Picasso was born. It displays around 285 works of Pablo along with works of other artist of the region.
