Who ended up on the throne?

What a wild season. 60 men entered and 59 of them have faded into oblivion! For the other 59, there is always next year, which reminds me, 2/3rds of our previous winners have been present at the draft, so there is a clear advantage to being there! So, mark your calendars for next year’s draft — Wednesday, September 4th, 2019, 7pm at Hope. Wings and pizza will be served.

Let’s get to some results…

Conference Champions

We had six conference championships this weekend. The winner of each conference will be awarded with a small conference champ trophy. (I will have them in a couple weeks and available to be picked up at the church).

Conference A — Snack Squad (Dave Bruner)
Conference B — Defense in the 8th? (Matt Russell)
Conference C — Castle Black (Chris Black) — Bounced in round 2 of the Mega Playoffs.
Conference D — Kelce’s Tailor (Rob Graham)
Conference E — Average Joe’s (Joe Kucharski)
Conference F — Catholic Fugitives (Mark Turanin) — Bounced in round 2 of the Mega Playoffs.

Before we recap the championship, don’t forget you can check out the other conferences at any time by clicking on the links below.

The Hunt for the Helmet

This is what it’s all about. There are few things in life that sports management strives to achieve: the Lombardi Trophy, the Stanley Cup, the Commissioner’s Trophy, the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy, and the Hope Helmet.

Sorry, Hoadley, once again, the Grey Cup still means nothing to us
But he finished 5th place in his conference!
Josh, fearlessly stepping to the plate in week 16.

Am I reading that right?

It wasn’t me?

That’s right fellas, we have our first NON-Conference Winner to be Hope’s Mega League Champion! Congrats to Josh Van Dexter! And before we get to our annual interview with the champ, let’s touch on just a few notes regarding the championship.

Of all 60 teams that played this week, four other teams would have beaten Josh straight up.

  • Jarod Claybourn 186.3 points in conference A
  • Rob Finnigan 178.1 points in conference C
  • Marcus Bullock 176 points in conference B
  • Tom Folcher 175 points in conference D

Let’s take a look at Josh’s championship lineup:

Not his optimal lineup, but still good enough for the W

An Interview with a Champ

The reason for the delay to this article was due to trying to nail down this interview. Josh has been busy finalizing filming for the final season of Game of Thrones. Fortunately, I met him on set to do the interview. He is in full makeup and GoT attire, so he looks nothing like himself.

Josh, congratulations on your victory this year! What advice did you give the team before kickoff?

Josh, I am told you are not impressed with the trophy?

There was talk that people were upset to see you in the finals being that you hadn’t made your conference finals. These same people threatened to burn you to the ground. How did that make you feel?

Well, Josh, after spending months checking and rechecking the injury reports, scouring the waiver wire, and spending countless hours watching football, what should we all do now?

Seems a bit of a stretch, but ok. Now that you have successfully conquered this league, what’s next?

Many would probably say that is a bit out of the realm of possibility for you to achieve.

What message did you send to the other five teams you were to face in the finals?

Anything else?

Well that seems a little harsh. I [raises hand] was one of those teams.

Um. OK. Well, I guess, thank you very much, Josh, for the interview, but I really need to get back because I have work in the morning. Enjoy the rest of your filming!

[frantically runs away]

See you next year. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 4th!
