Dabbling with a new way of life!
Growing up in a small mill town, my girlfriend Else and I found the move to the big city an exciting time of life. We found an apartment in North Vancouver (the rain capital of the world), and we bused to college each day.
Life is good, but we are broke. What a boon when Else’s Grandparents invite us for Sunday dinner a month after we arrive. Not only will we have a free meal but steak, which we can’t afford. What a delightful prospect!
A ten-minute SeaBus ride sees us across the water to downtown Vancouver. From there, we get a transfer across town to Victoria Drive. With plenty of time on our hands, Else tells me about her Grandparents.
“They are old,” she says, “and don’t get out much.” Her Grandfather is not very mobile. To keep him warm, they turn up the heat. Grandma does all the cooking. Else hopes the meal will be okay…I assure her I will love it!
