Family, Fissures and Phones
Nowadays, India is a Hotspot — not an investment hotspot, but more like a volcano fissure hot spot. The temperatures are soaring in the late 40s degrees Celsius in most of the country. Schools are shut during this time as the environment is not suitable for learning. However, schools may have to do more to improve the ’learning environment’ than waiting for the weather to improve. Anyway, this is the time most people go on vacation in India.
I live in the Himalayas, and due to the cool climate, many people visit here during this time of the year. My family came to visit me this year. We were supposed to spend quality time together and everyone was unanimous about it. So there we were — the whole family including my mom and dad, my sister, my nephew and niece, and my other sister.
We made a rule: No TV. Dad wouldn’t discuss politics, Mom wouldn’t spend all her time in the kitchen, my sister wouldn’t complain about her kids playing mobile games all day and the kids would only spend a limited time playing video games. As for me, I was not allowed to make stupid jokes to trivialize serious discussions. We all agreed to the above conditions as how can we not talk about family when family is all we have got? So, after a few hours of grand union there we were.
