How To Rebuild Respect in a Society Gone Wrong
Learn the alarming reasons behind our society’s decline in respect and learn practical steps to cultivate self-respect, empathy, and compassion.
Now that I am 29, just like many of you, I have had a lifetime spent trying to stumble through this world that appeared to be losing its hold on something fundamental: respect.
First time it sank in how much of an issue. It struck me one day walking down a busy city street, watching people moving like ants, heads down, ears plugged into devices, eyes glued to screens.
And in that moment, it felt like I was trudging through a crowd of unknown people — not just in that I didn’t actually know anyone personally. No eye contacts were being made. No smiles exchanged or nods of acknowledgement either.
Some brushed past others, bumping into each other, even without the courtesy of a mumbled apology. And I thought, “Is it now that we live in this kind of world? One that we don’t see anyone anymore?”
It really did stir some depths within me. The depth has since set things into greater perspective — more specifically, it has put against my understanding the sheer and unpalatable layers we embed into our daily goings-on.
