I love Queen, especially their song “I Want to Break Free’. Freedom is like morning bedside coffee, most people want it but very few get it. Political and economic commentators often discuss a free world and free trade, but it is far from reality. From birth, we are told what to do, which is contradictory. For example, a newborn’s mother tells him to stop crying while she is herself in tears (tears of joy though but I don't think a newborn could differentiate).

As we grow, we are told to get good grades in school, attend a decent college, earn a degree, and secure a job in a reputed firm but it doesn’t end there. We are supposed to get married, have kids, and follow the same process your parents were made to follow. I call it the Revenge of the Elders. But when do we find freedom?

Some believe that money can buy you freedom but it’s not entirely true (unless you need to be bailed out). Financial independence is a must but it's only one of the parts of freedom. Do you think these multi-billionaire celebrities are free? They are under the constant radar of the media and shareholders. Decisions once driven by passion are now influenced by optics. But it is the life they choose and perhaps they like it. It’s life a lot of people would kill for, it may be killable but it’s not freedom.
