Life by the Lake

We’ve had so much rain lately, the lake closest to us was 10 feet above floodplain. I don’t have photos of it, but the beach area was pretty much gone, leaving only the platforms that lead down to the sandy beach. Even the pavilion where they have summer concerts or Friday night movies was under water for weeks.

This is a flooded road leading to the lake from the same area about 10 years ago.

Mostly I like to ride my beach cruiser around the lake rather than get in water I can’t see the bottom of. The sun reflecting off the water on a breezy bike ride and stopping to breathe in the fresh air and take photos is more of a treat for me. It’s quiet and peaceful.

My youngest son has always wanted a boat. He says he’d be a lake rat if he could. I can still remember the time he came home from work years ago and said, “I’m gonna trade in my truck for a boat.” My response was, “You can’t drive a boat to work.” He blinked and said that one of his co-workers had said the same thing.

He’s managed to buy/sell/trade a few boats over the years. One of them I aptly named the Spongebob Boat because of its size and shape. I…
