Sometimes life gives you lemons.

I’m sure that’s a saying you’ve heard plenty of times, but what does it really mean? The phrase implies that it’s the sourness of lemons we are being dealt, perhaps the bitterness of biting into a pip.

Yet, I can’t help feeling that negative experiences are ones we subconsciously attract; negative actions and thoughts in our heads lead us eventually to experience something to which we then apply that phrase. Every single ‘negative’ thing that I can think of right now has happened after I have been worrying that it might.

For instance, I worried seemingly irrationally that my son wouldn’t get a place on his school bus, despite going on the waiting list a year in advance of needing it. And guess what? My worries manifested into reality when hardly any places were vacated by students leaving.

But those experiences also seem to bring with them other gifts. Every single time, they have delivered something beautiful and, often, unexpected.

Just as lemons are bursting with Vitamin C, help to cleanse us inside and boost our immune systems, and there’s a multitude of delicious culinary delights we can make with…
