What is Home?
A Letter To My Daughter
Dear Kub,
If you had asked me this question a decade ago, I’m pretty sure the answer would have been quite different back then.
It’s not that the world has changed, nor the activities of our daily living.
The reason is clear and the reason is simple. It’s because now…now we have you in our lives.
What makes a home?
Perhaps, after some contemplation, home doesn’t necessarily mean a place. Rather it’s a ‘what’. Lemme try to explain it in the form of my flowing thoughts.
For this parent, it is the opportunity to begin the day together with you.
To unhurriedly stir you from your slumber, and wait for you to freshen up and shuffle downstairs in your still sleep-addled mind.
‘Good sleep?’ I ask.
This morning, you nodded yes.
Soon after, mum left to get us some breakfast from the nearby shops. I made tea and we had roti with curries but she has to leave soon for a birthday luncheon with friends.
And that’s fine … coz you remember what we planned for lunch last night? Yes…that ever appetizing hotpot meal with the spicy peppercorn soup.
