Dr. Clifford Shaw. RIP.

Dr. Clifford Shaw, film historian and Sheffield’s greatest cinephile, sadly passed away this week. Sightings of Dr. Shaw were commonplace at any film related event, no matter the pedigree or vintage of picture. I personally even spotted him as far afield as London, at the London Film Festival; an admirable feat for a man well in to his 90’s at the time.

Dr. Shaw was a product of the pre-internet age; he studiously kept track of every film that played in Sheffield from the birth of cinema through to his death, and his knowledge was encyclopaedic. He’ll be greatly missed.
