Film Noir: Light And Shadow. A New Book.

I get sent a fair bit of unsolicited material from PR companies. It usually goes unread or unwatched, or is given away to friends or relatives. Occasionally though something of note shows up in the mail.

Just last week some kind soul (there was no delivery note) sent me a copy of the new book on film noir by Alain Silver and James Ursini, Film Noir: Light And Shadow. Silver and Ursini are real contemporary heavyweights of noir theory and criticism, with the Film Noir Reader collections essentially the bible of the subject, and their latest anthology sees a range of great writers collected together to discuss various aspects of the movement/genre/whatever you prefer to call film noir. The likes of Imogen Sara Smith and Sheri Chinen Biesen feature.

I’ve only dipped in to the book thus far, but I can tell it’s going to be a worthwhile read. The book is available from Amazon.
