Today marks the 86th birthday of Jean-Luc Godard, the greatest filmmaker of all time.

Here are a couple of notable items.

  • The story of Godard’s collaboration with Jean-Pierre Beauviala of Aaton, the iconic French camera makers. The famous image I’ve used above is of Godard with the resulting camera.
  • Godard cut this wonderful trailer for Robert Bresson’s Mouchette in 1967.
  • I’m fairly sure that I’ve posted this before, but regardless of whether I have or not here’s a Film Stage piece on a cigarette commercial Godard produced in the 1990s.
