The French filmmaker and clown Pierre Étaix has died.

Having made his start in the movies working alongside some of the grand masters of French cinema, on films as celebrated as Jacques Tati’s Mon Oncle and Robert Bresson’s Pickpocket, no less), Pierre Étaix would go on to become a beloved filmmaker in his own right, with an Academy Award amongst the honours bestowed upon him. Our thoughts are with those closest to him.

The below clip sees Étaix recall how his experiences working with Bresson on Pickpocket.
