The Criterion Memorandum For August 2017.

Following the miraculous announcements of last month, August was always going to be something of a comedown for Criterion.

That being said, it’s a solid little month. The Breaking Point, from Michael Curtiz, is a major acquisition for the label, with the Film Noir most welcome in the wake of this year’s earlier release of Mildred Pierce. Sacha Guitry’s La Poison is a wonderful movie, with this release overshadowed slightly by the fact that the film has long been available on Blu-ray outside of the US.

Mike Leigh’s Meantime comes to disc in a newly restored edition, with Jarvis Cocker featuring on the supplements, while Alex Cox’s Sid & Nancy makes a return to the label having been out of print for some decades. Rounding out the month is another returning title, Hopscotch, from Ronald Neame.
