The Criterion Memorandum For July 2017.

A pair of canonical classics make their way in to the Criterion Collection this summer, with Robert Bresson’s L’argent amongst the most exciting additions to the line for some time.

L’argent, Bresson’s 13th and final film is arguably the best last film ever made, and it’s omission from the Criterion catalogue has long lingered as something of a major oversight. As to was the lack of Andrei Tarkovsky’s Stalker, a curatorial lapse that too is being fixed in July. Both films feature new restorations (4K for the Bresson, 2K for Stalker), and new supplements featuring the likes of James Quandt and Geoff Dyer.

Also new to the Criterion catalogue in July 2017 is Albert Brooks’ Lost In America, which marks the induction of the popular American auteur in to the series. Rounding out the month is the long-awaited upgrade of Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy.
