October is traditionally a Horror heavy month for Criterion, and this year is no different.

Olivier Assayas’ Personal Shopper is the best film of 2017 to date, and one of the great ghost stories of the modern cinema. Its exciting to see the movie given this kind of platform. David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me makes for a curious addition to the collection, given that the current disc is excellent.

An HD release of Carl Th. Dreyer’s Vampyr has long been in demand, and it’s finally coming in October. The Lure, a contemporary Polish horror-musical from Agnieszka Smoczyńska rounds out the month in Halloween-appropriate fare.

Perhaps the most thrilling announcement of October is one far away from the genre most commonly associated with the month; that of Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon. Somewhat underrated next to the likes of 2001: A Space Odyssey and Dr. Strangelove, Barry Lyndon has long been my favourite of the filmmaker’s work, and this release, derived from a new 4K restoration of the movie, ought to make for a worthwhile upgrade of the existing Warner Bros. release, not least in the supplements department (this new edition is absolutely stacked with original material)

Artwork for the October releases is below.
