emotion#11: Gratitude

A portrait I made of my mom (and then accidentally spilled some coffee on it)

Dear Mom,

Thank you for supporting me in everything I do: with your encouraging words, with your presence, with your ideas, with your feedback, and with your admiration.

Thank you for always welcoming me in your home, for letting me stay for as long as I want, for feeding me, for doing my laundry, and for always wanting me to come back.

Thank you for understanding that sometimes I am just angry, or sad, and that the only reason why I project those on you is because you feel like home, and comfort often makes me forget about reality.

Thank you for laughing with me. Thank you for finding my jokes funny, for joining my ridiculous random dances, for hiding in the closet to scare me when I get home, for playing Singstar with me, for having cultivated fun and play as core values in me since the moment I was born.

Thank you for not being afraid to speak your mind, and thank you for doing it with love.

Thank you for respecting my freedom of choice, and for always trying to understand why I do what I do: why I leave, why I write, why I need time for myself, why I only have four shirts and why all my belongings fit in a small suitcase, why I say the things I say and then take them back, why I am not like the rest of the family.

Thank you for wanting to learn with me: this is probably the biggest proof of love you have ever given me, and keep on giving everyday. It is a pleasure to see you grow, and everyday you surprise me with your open mindedness, your strength, and your infinite ability to love.

Thank you for inspiring me. Thank you for being such a complete role model, and thank you for being in my life.
