I often stumble upon things while spending countless hours each week on the internet with no intended goals or purpose.
This week I came across Coursera, a web hub for online classes of every subject imaginable offered by universities across the U.S. You can start an account for free and have free access to course materials but if you want to participate in class and have your work graded by a professor- that’s going to cost you.
I’m the type of chick that likes to work at her own pace so the course materials and structure are enough for me.
Next up: Submishmash, powered by Submittable has an online hub of creative opportunities looking for creatives of poetry, fiction, nonfiction and visual arts. You can sign up for a free account and keep track of the opportunities that you’re either interested in or have applied to.
Since there’s an absurd amount to search through and new ones are constantly being added you can sign up to have their free weekly newsletter of opportunities emailed directly to you (for those of you who can’t spend countless hours on the internet with no intended goals or purpose).
Next up: A Spiral Notebook

Although this may appear to be an average wide ruled one subject notebook it is far more than that. For $.99 you can have a commonplace book.
A commonplace book is a super resource to jot down notes from the day, story ideas, future plans, goals, keep track of business and I’ve heard people have also used it to write down random recipes they come across, but since my most valuable cooking skill is eating raw vegetables I don’t do that. My point is, however, you can write anything and everything down in this book. It’s a hard copy, people. No computer needed!
Last: I invite anyone that reads this to write about your favorite hometown place in a response below. If there is a website please include the link as well so we can all check it out. Some of us can’t afford to travel the world, but we do have the opportunity to see it through each other’s eyes.
I’ll write mine at a later time. Right now I’m off on a walk to the farmer’s market (yes, in my boy cut underwear). Maybe that’s the place I will share with you.

- Please consider making a contribution to my writing habit! I’ll be your best friend forever, swear it.
- You can follow my cats on “The Crazy Cat Lady Photo Blog.” You know you want to.
