Hope

Today is my first day back after a long weekend.

The last 2 months have been ‘work-work-work-work-work’, as Rihanna would say. As satisfying as my job is, everyone needs a break after a while.

On Friday, someone higher up trashed some of the good work I had put in. So I asked my boss for feedback. What followed was a good half an hour of venting. We don’t usually vent. It felt really good for the simple reason that it reinforced the fact that he has my back.

He gave me hope at 10.30 pm after which I would be spending the next few hours reworking another presentation. That conversation was a mood uplifter. And that’s the good thing about having great people in your space.

Someone very wise once said, “Be in the company of people better than you.” Another wise person also said, “You are the average of the five people you surround yourself with.” That must mean that if you follow the latter, you will be better than most of the people you know. I try to aspire toward that. Having no problems saying no to people, I avoid the ones that suck energy, time and mental space.

My point is, positive reinforcement gives you hope, that every drop of sweat you put in isn’t for nothing.

I have found that giving gratitude a couple of times a day helps. If you find yourself lost and in the dumps, read up Louise Hay’s Heal Your Life philosophy. I have seen it work for me.

I have complete confidence in my abilities and know I am good at what I do. All I needed is hope. Hope keeps everyone going.
