Job Fairs aren’t Fair.

The cruel reality for those of us who need work.
Today I went to yet another job fair.
If you have never been to one of these mind numbing things, picture a circus with twice the amount of people, no entertainment, longer lines, and carpal tunnel.
I have submitted my application to quite literally every business I have come across in this town, outside of the gay bars and strip clubs.
Let’s face it, I just don’t have the legs for it.
I go to these fairs to try to look for new businesses coming into town and see if there is anyone I missed.
I was chatting with a rep from the local medical factory, who I don’t even bother applying because I have been rejected 5 times, when he lets slip that all the applications he gets today will just go in the trash.
WHAT?!
“ I am just here to meet the application quota mandated by the state, I know who I am going to hire, but I am short applications. All of these will just get shredded and never looked at”
What. the. actual. hell.
His company was the main booth at this fair, the line for just his booth was well over 50 people deep when I got there, and I had pre-registered to get early access. I was in the door an hour before the general public was allowed in. When those doors opened, his booth was pushing triple digits.
All those people hoping to get their foot in the door, not even knowing they had no chance.
I have no idea how many other places do this.
How many times had I wasted my application like these people are doing today?
Granted my skill set is limited…

This just seems like a added evil for us poor fools in need of a little hope.
I was able to put in an application for a new donut place coming into town.
The owner of the place and I seemed to hit it off well.
Fingers crossed.
