Sounds of my Life

I’m sitting on the city bus and behind me is a gaggle of noisy young kids. A chorus of laughing and yelling and screaming and crying along nearly the whole bus route, until a couple of elderly ladies with walkers come aboard, then the young woman supervisor of the bunch says to shush, shush, to try to get some quiet time. She says, “ Now be quiet until we get to the Dairy Queen, okay”.
As I’m sitting in the exam room at the walk-in medical clinic about to see my new doctor , I overhear a conversation from the hallway as my door is open. An elderly lady is talking to the nurse about a sample. “ Here is the washroom and here is the sample container , now just leave your sample here on the shelf” “ But, I don’t know, what should I do?” “There are five sample containers but you only need to pee in one , okay, and just leave it here on the little shelf” I can’t help but smile at that conversation.
Later , at home, all is fairly quiet, except the usual bit of traffic sounds and barking dogs in the neighbourhood. I lay down on my bed and think and meditate and develop an idea for a story and what do you know, this one was born.
I am blessed to have my hearing as so many people like some elderly folks have lost this precious gift.
