HOPR Treasure Hunt Rules (250,000 HOPR Prize Fund + 100% APR Boost NFT)
The first testnet of the HOPR staking program begins later this week! Previous testnets have included a large gamified component, with daily tasks, games and puzzles. We’ll definitely return to that in the near future, but for now, the testnets are focused on strictly technical activities to ensure the HOPR core development team have the information they need to continue refining the protocol and building the all-important cover traffic mechanism.
But we don’t want to leave the games behind entirely, so for the next six months we’re running the HOPR Hunt: a series of 32 puzzles which we hope will entertain and educate. Starting September 1st, head to the forum each week to see the latest puzzles, and work together to try and find the hidden treasure: a 250,000 HOPR token prize fund and unique HOPR NFT boosts, including the grand prize of a 100% APR boost NFT!
The Individual Puzzles
Between September 1st and the end of the year, 32 puzzles will be released, at least one a week. The first person to solve each puzzle will receive a Gold Puzzler NFT worth a 4% APR boost. The next ten correct entries will receive a Bronze Puzzler NFT worth a 1% APR boost.
Each NFT is of the same type (Puzzler), to encourage a variety of winners — the HOPR staking contract only recognises the highest-ranking NFT of each type.
The puzzles will span a range of puzzle types and difficulty levels. Many will be about different forms of encryption and code-breaking, and some will be directly related to the HOPR protocol, as a way to understand what goes on underneath the hood of HOPR.
The puzzles will be grouped into four sets of eight, with a narrative which links each set. But each puzzle is standalone: play as many or as few as you like, in whatever order you like. The puzzles will always be accessed via the HOPR forum, but many will take you elsewhere on the Internet, or will require you to spin up a HOPR node to proceed.
The Hunt
The individual puzzles are only a small part of the story. Hidden among the puzzles (and beyond) is an overarching treasure hunt leading to some amazing prizes.
The Map
Every two weeks during the first half of the hunt, a new wallet will appear containing a piece of The Map. Each wallet will contain an NFT with a boost from 10% — 50% and a prize ranging from 10,000–50,000 HOPR. Finding the map pieces will provide clues and confirmation for how to find The Treasure, the hunt’s grand prize, but are not necessary to win. There are many ways to get the information needed to win The Treasure, and it’s possible for the map wallets to be accessed after The Treasure is claimed, or not at all.
The Treasure
The ultimate goal of the hunt is to find The Treasure. The Treasure is an NFT for the HOPR staking program which confers a whopping 100% boost to your staking APR. The NFT is also accompanied by a prize of 100,000 HOPR tokens, so there’s plenty of incentive to join the hunt even if you aren’t already staking. The 100,000 HOPR tokens can be staked or cashed out as you choose.
The key to accessing the wallet is hidden among the puzzles (and beyond, but the puzzles are where to start). Work alone or as a team to find the clues and track down the treasure.
There are multiple paths to victory, but time is of the essence: the first person to access the wallet and empty it will win! The wallet with The Treasure will appear within the first two weeks of the hunt, and can then be claimed at any time.
Additional Prizes
There are additional hidden prizes and NFTs to win throughout the hunt. The total prize fund for the hunt is 250,000 HOPR tokens.
FAQs
If the individual puzzles contain the clues to the treasure hunt, does that mean the treasure can’t be won until the last puzzle is released?
Definitely not! There will be enough information to find and claim the treasure from as soon as the first two weeks of the hunt. It will, however, be very hard to solve at that stage. Each puzzle that’s released will include more clues and information, making the path to the treasure a little clearer. We expect and hope that the hunt will last for several months, but if you’re ingenious enough the treasure can be claimed almost straight away.
The map pieces will be accessible from various points throughout the first half of the hunt, with the most valuable pieces available first.
I’m not very good at mathematics or computing. Can I win?
Absolutely! Many of the individual puzzles are related to cryptography, codes, and everything that makes HOPR tick, but the solution to the hunt can be found by anyone who spots the clues and follows the trail. No complex mathematics or esoteric knowledge is required. Everything needed to find The Treasure will be in the puzzles themselves or findable on the Internet. You won’t need to pay to join any sites or services (although it would be helpful to fund and run a HOPR node).
English isn’t my first language. Can I win?
Sure. The language of the puzzles and treasure hunt is English, but no in-depth knowledge of language is required.
What if The Treasure isn’t won by the end of the staking program?
The Treasure NFT boost only works until the end of the staking program (January 17th 2022), but the HOPR tokens in the wallet will stay there until someone completes the hunt and claims them.
I’m new to HOPR. Can I play and win?
Certainly! One goal of the treasure hunt is to attract new people to the HOPR community and teach people about data privacy and the HOPR protocol. No prior knowledge of HOPR is required to win, although you will need to fund and run a HOPR node for some of the puzzles.
