If you had 3–4 months to do anything, what would you do?

When asked this question, Horizonites took on the challenge of bringing their ideas to life. Check out a few examples of what our Spring ’17 Horizonites have built below:

Video Search

Rajiv P +Bennett M

If a picture is worth 1,000 words, how much is one video worth? With the rise of mega platforms like Snapchat, Instagram and YouTube, video content is increasing exponentially year-over-year. In order to make sense of the rich data within these videos, enter VideoSearch.

VideoSearch leverages computer vision and machine learning to enable users to search for specific people, moments and items within videos. What’s more, users can navigate to these points instantaneously and find exactly what they are looking for. It is one thing to learn how to code — it is entirely another to apply the latest in technological advances into our projects.

A few technologies used: Node, Python Server, AWS, Heroku, Clarifai

Braquet

Syed M

“We would pay for this product if it was not offered for free to the company” -Brandon Jacobs, Assistant Director of Supply Chain at UGE

When you receive that type of comment from a user, you know you are onto something.

With 10 years of collective solar experience, the Braquet team is passionate about reducing the operational costs of being a solar energy provider. To start, they have created a platform that help buyers and suppliers of solar parts connect & transact with each other. Already, users are finding that they can cut many of their supply costs in half through this product!

Check out how Braquet is doing below:

  • 200 Suppliers on board within 1.5 months
  • 800+ reviews & quotes on merchandise
  • Average session time: 30 minutes (unprecedented for this space)

Port

Lisa Hoong + Claire Huang

Free shipping after $50 spent. Spend $100, get $25 back.

These promos sound amazing but it can be incredibly frustrating to achieve these cart minimums. Enter, Port. This product allows users to crowd-source their online shopping carts at companies like Victoria’s Secret, split payments and take advantage of great deals.

Lisa and Claire plan to release Port to their sorority sisters and, if reception goes well, prepare for a wider release. After learning the building blocks of product development, it is exciting to go out and quickly solve a real problem in our lives in structured, meaningful way.

A few technologies used: Node, Express, Mongo, React

Adoe

Yasmeen W, Derek M + Alex D

Over the past few years, the way we invest, save and keep track of our financials has changed dramatically. However, there has not been any notable change in the way we donate.

Given the importance of fundraising to campus organizations across the United States, our team found several ways to apply technology to make donating friendlier and more seamless. Adoe enables users to both search for foundations and then donate through their mobile devices. We provide value by eliminating payment challenges, adding donation tracking features and making the receipt of tax benefits substantially easier.

A few technologies used: React Native, Node, Mongo, Stripe

FareBuddy

Ha Min Ko +Brian Lee

We hate surge pricing. As cash-strapped students as well as frequent users of ride-sharing apps, Ham and Brian wanted to find a way to get to their destinations for the lowest price possible. Enter FareBuddy!

FareBuddy will quickly scan the vicinity of a user’s current location to find nearby ride-origin points that are substantially cheaper. It is a pretty big deal to take what was just an idea and work with another Horizonite to make it real- excited for what comes next!

A few technologies used: Node, Express, Mongo, React Native, Uber API

Shake — It’s good cardio!
