Insight Series: Pracademia

Dr Jill Dickinson and Teri-Lisa Griffiths explore professional development through creative methods for pracademics.

Drawing on the recently published edited collection, colleagues from across the Higher Education sector were invited to join a workshop to explore the opportunities open to, and challenges faced by, pracademics (those with dual practitioner and academic professional experience).

Dr Jill Dickinson is a Reader of Law at Leeds Law School and a former solicitor. Jill’s research explores place-making and professional development, and her work has been recognised in the Emerald Literati Awards. Jill sits on a number of committees and journal editorial boards, and she has developed research-based communities of practice. As an SFHEA, Jill has been shortlisted for National Teaching Fellowship, and she was also selected to review the Advance HE Global Teaching Excellence Awards.

Teri-Lisa Griffiths is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University. Her teaching is focused on the development of student employability and academic skills, working with external partners to provide relevant and high quality experiences for students. Her research interests are student engagement and professional development. As a former careers adviser, Teri-Lisa is interested in how education and professional identity can influence career and development choices. She is a co-founder of the pracademia community of practice.
