Happy Valentine’s Day and welcome to our second update for 2019. February brings us continued development on the self serve version of the Horizon State platform, the completion of a key project and further expansion to our voting capabilities in the form of preferential voting.

Leadership Update

On the 1st of February, Nimo took over as CEO of Horizon State. Another exciting move saw Andy stepping up to the CPO position, which has been vacant since Jamie’s departure. We wish them the best in their respective new roles.

The leadership team is rapidly aligning the company to be lean and focused in both customer verticals and product delivery. There is still a lot to be done, and it’s an ongoing process.

Focusing the product around the core voting and decision making capabilities of the platform has created a story that our customers can identify with, and we are seeing good traction on that front.

Being lean means the development team are laser focused on delivering new functionality at a rapid pace. What this means for our customers is being able to meet their requirements, with some exceptionally positive feedback. We have even had some ex employees lending a hand in a very collaborative manner.

On top of this, there have been offers from our community to help; sharing their connections and expertise. The vote of confidence in the leadership and direction has been overwhelming, and we are always grateful to everyone who provides support and assistance to Horizon State.

Development update

Last month’s update covered 3 core features that we are in the process of developing: donations, authentication improvements, and our turn key voting solution. As work continues on these, we have also developed two completely new decision making tools to add into our platform. This allows us to conduct an assortment of votes which fall into the preferential voting category. There is no single definition for preference voting, since the term is used for a number of different elections systems and groups of such systems. A preferential vote can be synonymous with STV — single-transferable vote, the open list proportional representation, or the group of all ranking methods. The biggest driver for developing this was customer demand, as the next large vote to run on our platform will use this particular feature. Our interface allows the end user to order their list of preferred candidates (or options) by using drag and drop functionality, or sort manually using up/down arrows.

We are also able to specify a minimum or maximum number of options (for the case where we are nominating a committee with more than one seat).

In order to showcase these new features and give our supporters a hands on experience — we will be creating a series of votes through our demo community which will be launched prior to our Team AMA on the 27th of February.
