Setting up the VM

Irrespective of the cloud platform, the first milestone was erecting a robust virtual machine (VM) that is the bastion of the proxy server. Ensuring HTTP and HTTPS traffic enabled, the VM was configured, marking the first step towards an enhanced web experience.

Installing and Configuring Squid

Installation of the Squid proxy on a Debian-based system was streamlined, thanks to the following commands:

sudo apt update
sudo apt install squid

Configuring Squid meant diving into its configuration file, customizing it to allow traffic from specific IP addresses, a crucial step for ensuring an amalgamation of security and accessibility:

sudo nano /etc/squid/squid.conf

With an ACL rule and HTTP access granted:

acl localnet src YOUR_LOCAL_IP/32
http_access allow localnet
